June 2017 Project Update

by WHS Project on June 15, 2017

Did You Know ~

  • The WHS rebuild is nearing the end of Phase 3 – the final phase of the project!
  • Phase 3 interior work in wings A and B is nearing completion.  All new furniture and technology will begin to be delivered and installed over the coming month.
  • The completion of the academic year kicks off the rapid removal of all modular classrooms, and summer work will focus primarily on completing the exterior site work around the WHS campus.
  • Trees are arriving!  Hopefully you have had a chance to see new trees planted both in front and in back of the school, as well as along the perimeter of portions of Skillings Field.  Landscape efforts will continue into the fall for optimal planting conditions.
  • The WHS site will be closed to the public for final construction work beginning on Wednesday, June 28.  All meetings with parents and students will occur off campus, primarily at the Lincoln School Library.  The regular school phone numbers will be in use.
  • To help maintain the Town’s investment in the rebuilt WHS facility, the Town’s Department of Public Works has hired a dedicated facilities manager, who is already on the job to best ensure knowledge and training for managing HVAC and other systems, energy efficiency and general facilities maintenance.
  • With the approval of funding by Winchester’s voters and Town Meeting, final design is underway for an artificial turf baseball/multisport play field at Skillings.  The field is expected to be completed in late November, with parking at Skillings Field open earlier in the fall 2017, as originally planned.

AND …

  • Mark your calendars!  The ribbon cutting for the completed project is scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, September 12.  More information to follow, but please plan to come, celebrate, and be thanked for participating in the community’s support!
