September 2017 Update

by WHS Project on September 10, 2017

Did You Know ~
  • You are invited to attend a Ribbon-Cutting and Community Celebration in honor of completion of the Winchester High School rebuild!  Please mark your calendars for this ceremony for Tuesday, September 12, 9:30 am, in front of WHS.  (Since school will be in session on September 12, open houses are planned for October 13 and 14 to allow members of the community to tour the completed space — details to come.)
  • Winchester High School will reopen on schedule for students on Wednesday, September 6 (on Tuesday, September 5 for faculty and staff)!  Exterior landscape and similar site work will extend into the fall to allow for planting that will optimize the weather.
  • Final certificates of inspection for the WHS building have been issued by Winchester’s Building Department, after final walkthroughs early the week of August 28.
  • Student parking will once again be available at Skillings Field this school year, and will continue to be available as work on the baseball play field occurs.
  • This past summer has focused especially on site work, including removal of the modular classrooms that substituted for some interior classroom space during the renovation.  For a fun view of the modular work and departure, check out a time-lapse video prepared by Mike Marcella (WHS ’19) and the WHS Tech Crew at this link:  WHS Mods Move Out
  • This project has taken almost 40 months to construct, after years of planning, design and community support, including a significant tax override approved by 68% of voters in a high turnout election.  Many thanks to Winchester residents and all those individuals who worked on the project for this great accomplishment, and especially to students and staff at WHS and neighbors of the project, who bore the brunt of the disruption.  We hope that all participants in the project — volunteer Board and Committee members, voters and taxpayers, construction and other workers from Consigli (contractor), SMMA (architect) and Skanska (project manager) — are proud of the outcome!
